Fraser International College (FIC) is pleased to announce that we will be offering a Pre-Master’s Program (PMP) leading to the Professional Master’s in Engineering at Simon Fraser University.
This is the first Canadian PMP with guaranteed progression to a master’s degree in engineering and is an excellent option for students wanting to work as an engineer in Canada.
Course work Master’s; includes 3 lab courses where students work on industry-level projects and also a four-month paid co-op position. The Co-op position and lab courses allow students to develop strong links with potential employers.
Total program length is 20 months, including the PMP.
After completing the professional master’s program at SFU, students will be academically qualified to register as an Engineer in Training in BC. Students may register in mechatronics or the area of their undergraduate degree. They will work for four years under the supervision of a professional member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia and complete the Law and Ethics Seminar and the Professional Practice Exam. They will then be able to work as a Professional Engineer (PEng) anywhere in Canada. (Engineers who completed their bachelor’s degree in Canada go through the same process.)
Graduates of a Master’s in Engineering are able to apply for the BC Provincial Nominee Program for Permanent Residence status in Canada.
Mechatronics engineers are in very high demand due to their comprehensive educational training in mechanical, electronics and computer engineering. For instance, mechatronics engineers have the necessary skills to design a modern car with integrated electronics and hybrid technology, which is why they are in such high demand.
